Ahsin Ahsin is a Hamilton based artist. He uses various material’s and creates works that are strong and vibrantly coloured. He has been influenced by the Surrealists, 80s and 90s sci fi and street art.
He works his neo pop style across a variety of different surfaces, and the scale of his work varies from tiny to extremely large, maintaining a strong sense of wise composition and humour.
He says “he draws inspiration from the world around him, his friends and his life experiences”
Inspired by a childhood packed with American comic books and cartoons, I create my own caste of characters that look into fictional stereotypes focusing on ideas of contemporary masculinity and the super-hero. I turn ‘tough guys’ into what I call ‘man puddles’, unlikely to rescue you and more accustomed to panic attacks.
Influenced by technology, science-fiction, overheard conversations and observing the people around me, I explore and challenge ideas around stereotypes, politics, popular culture and mass media. It is a subtle form of social commentary that allows you to have a little chuckle while hinting at something deeper.
